When Peggy asked me to take photos for her wedding, I was honored! I have worked (the day job) with Peggy for probably 15-20 years so when I hear she was going to marry her high school sweetheart I was excited to see the joyful, romance in her face, I was not disappointed, I have never seen her happier!
When I asked John and Peggy what brought them together, they told me that they attended different high schools and they met, dated and went to prom together in 1985. Things went sideways as a lot of young love does and they went their separate ways. They both married other people, had children, divorced and started chatting again. One thing lead to another and here we are. I love this picture of them at their prom in 1985, I think she looks at him the same way she did way back when.
John and Peggy got married on the Willamette Queen, its a fun adventure to have an event on. Before leaving dock the captain marries the couple and we then set off for a 2 hour sunset cruise. If you’re planning a wedding you should check them out, they provide everything except flowers for the wedding party and cake ~ they do all the rest! Talk about taking the stress out of wedding planning!
When I arrived, Peggy’s 2 bridesmaids were helping her get into her dress, which is my cue to start shooting. I love to capture the giggles, laughing, happiness and a few nerves when the bride is getting ready. Peggy had her hair and make-up done and was ready to get into her beautiful dress. The ladies helped zip her up and we chatted about the schedule for the day. The ceremony was go to start in an hour so I had to make quick work of getting first look, family photos, bride and groom shots done. We had one important person missing on this special day, Peggy’s son. He living out of the country and wasn’t able to be present. BUT with technology and a little help from a friend he was able to be their via video chat. It was 4AM and he was in a suit and tie and dressed ready to be present for his mom’s wedding. It gave everyone tears especially mom!
Once we did all of the pictures and friends and family were all on the boat, the captain started the ceremony. One thing I know about Peggy is she doesn’t like to be in front of people or be the center of attention. Well, if you are a bride you are NUMBER 1 center of attention! As long as she could see or was looking at John you could tell she was calmed by his presence. They got married without a hitch and the captain fired up the boat and we were off! The boat served dinner, which was skewers of chicken, beef and fish with rice and veggies. The bride and groom wanted to have a Disney’s Up movie theme to their wedding and the cupcakes were all balloon like and the bride and groom had a small cake that was one of John’s favorite characters Snoopy and Snoopy’s girlfriend, they were made by Michelle Ashley Custom Cakes Peggy told them what she wanted and they nailed it! Everything was totally “them” and you could tell they chose things that were their favorite things that they wanted to share with their friends and family. The cake and cupcakes were delish!!!
Once thing about Covid that I personally think has been positive is that events/gatherings need to be small. Which is terms of weddings that can be hard for some but it really does make for very personal, intimate sweet weddings. I really do think I like these kinds of weddings, they are truly a beautiful reflection of the bride and groom.
